What's your mark?

Hey Relentless Students! So, today we are on day 3 of the 30-day devotion, how is it going for you? I hope it is going well and you are seeing the value behind unplugging for an hour, spending time in prayer and reading the passages of scripture given.

Today's passage was Romans 12:9-21. The passage talks about what we as Christians should look like and there is a lot in the list:

Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. 10 Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. 11 Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord. 12 Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. 13 Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality.

14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. 16 Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight. 17 Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. 18 If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. 19 Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it[i] to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” 20 To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

We should be:

  • loving,

  • holding on to what is good,

  • showing honor,

  • serving God,

  • hopeful,

  • patient,

  • prayerful,

  • hospitable,

  • empathetic,

  • able to live in harmony,

  • humble,

  • peaceful,

  • and forgiving

There is a lot to take in just from the list. How many do you do consistently? 3? 8? 1? It doesn't matter how many you are good at now, it matters that you strive to be all of these for all people. God has saved us from the punishment we deserve and in doing so asks us to be Him to those around us. Now, we will never be God, but by intentionally moving towards Him, He can use us and show Himself through us to others through the actions above.

If you read Romans 12:1-2 you'll see we are to be transformed by the renewing of our minds, which God is working to do in each one of us, as long as we pursue Him. So, pursue Him, work towards reflecting the list above and let God do the rest.

So, which areas do you need to work on and how are you going to make it happen?
